Who Am I?

Hi there and welcome to my blog, A Spoonful of Sunshine! My name is Alexa. Or Lexi, depending upon your preference. (More on that later though!) I started this blog in June of 2011, after reading food+healthy living blogs for nearly 3 years. Born and raised in Southern California, I recently graduated from high school and will soon be attending Georgetown University in Washington D.C. as a Business major of some sort.

But really, who am I? I am a vivacious and fiercely independent perfectionist, who is practically incapable of doing any job without giving 100% and double checking my work. I started going by Lexi (rather than Alexa) during the beginning of high school for various reasons. Some people called me by said nickname at a summer job, and I found myself enjoying the change. It felt like a good start for the new beginning I sought. I changed enormously as a person between the end of middle school and the end of high school, and “Lexi” came to represent that change. Quite honestly, it was an integral part of the new identity I formed in high school. People ask me all the time if I dislike being called Alexa now. I certainly don’t mind it–in fact, I actually like the name my parents gave me! In a way I can’t explain though, introducing myself as Lexi just seems more natural at this point.

I also became a vegetarian in Fall 2010 (but will still occasionally eat fish) and haven’t looked back since. I absolutely love healthy cooking, baking, and food, as they represent my greatest passion in life thus far. Cooking/baking is my therapy for a bad day, as well as a generous chunk of the sanity that keeps me grounded in life. Simply put, it makes me happy. My love for nutrition and an active lifestyle are rooted in my belief that good food is conducive to good health. In essence, I believe that delicious, healthy food is one of the major cornerstones of wellness as a whole. To me, fitness represents another part of that whole and goes hand in hand with my love of wholesome food. I am always looking for different ways to be active, but running, dancing, hiking, biking, rock scrambling, yoga/hot yoga, kayaking, and trying new classes at my local gym currently top the list.
