WIAW: Yesterday vs. Today

Welcome to a WIAW marathon. If you plan on calling today’s post a workout, that’s totes cool.

I won’t tell. My name isn’t Jim, but we can just call this the gym. No biggy. What are friends for?

I know you’re dying to hear about what went down in Philly yesterday.

Okay, maybe that’s just me. I am dying to write a post. But ya know what stinks about #real life as a college student?

Homework. Yes, even over Spring Break. Namely philosophy papers in which it feels as if I typed the same exact thing 10 times backwards and forwards. Oh boy.

In the mean time, I’m leaving you with a post to feast your eyes on Wednesday eats. And because I totes feel bad for not recapping yet, I’ll even give you a hint as to what eats looked like yesterday.

Meanwhile, I’ll go ponder the meaning of life. Sweet deal, eh?

Breakfast

Today:

  • Organic instant oats / Quaker old-fashioned oats
  • Amazing Grass Chocolate
  • 2 scoops almond butter – maranatha / TJ’s flaxseed
  • Coconut Butter (ahhhhhhhb-sessed to zeee max)
  • Blackberries
  • Toasted wheat germ

Half eaten on the go. Because that’s how I roll Winking smile

Yesterday

Waffles and a rando bowl of sweet potatoes w/ “pb and j” topping. See the dirty deets here!

First Lunch

Today

I love sandwiches but not just any sandwich! After going to Saxby’s during E’s dentist appointment today, we stopped by The Head Nut—a quirky little bulk-foods store. They had an amazing supply of chocolate covered just-about-everything, specialty pastas, and gourmet pancake mixes that looked to die for. E said the frozen hot chocolate was amazing, but I was still full from breakfast, so I didn’t get anything. Another time!

Afterwards, we drove back through Wayne and tossed around ideas for lunch.

PB&U? Great Harvest? A new place solely dedicated to grilled cheese? Tough choices.

In the end, I picked Great Harvest, which lured me in again with its delicious low-carb multigrain bread. I’m not a low carb person by any means (carbs, carbs, carbs! Smile), but this stuff is fantastic. Super moist and high in protein, purportedly from the tofu.

I got a vegetarian sandwich on said bread, which consisted of roasted veggies and garlic hummus. It was good, but again, the customer service put a bit of a damper on the experience. Rude employees + uber snail’s pace sandwich making = no bueno Sad smile

Yesterday

Lunch was all over the place yesterday. Because I had such a late breakfast, I had a lunch that amounted to a whole bunch of light snacks. Of course, that’s not to say that they weren’t delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed my crudites and salad.

Second Lunch

The Great Harvest sandwich that I ordered was pretty tiny, so I made myself an additional half of a sandwich at home. Did anyone else catch how E’s house is now referred to as home…? Smile

This sandwich, which pretty much combined all my favorite things, was one to remember for sure. Starring..

  • TJ’s Soft Wheat Bread <— bomb diggity
  • Organic mixed greens
  • Hickory-smoked tofurkey slices
  • TJ’s garlic hummus on one side
  • Sliced avocado (Red heartRed heartRed heart) on the other

Oh my. This was AMAZING. I had my reservations about tofurkey, but combined with everything else, it made for a great sandwich. One of the few things that stinks about being vegetarian is constantly being served the same four sandwiches: veggie burgers, caprese, portabella, and roasted vegetable. I love all of them, but it does get old. Totally planning on recreating this second lunch!

Yesterday

All-you-can-eat dim sum. $12. OMG. No words…

Snackums

1 juicy plum (mmm summer). Carrot sticks + guacamole (california has spoiled me). A “shot” of coffee. Despite trying to back off caffeine, I couldn’t resist.

Simple. short. snack-ity.

Dinner

Today

First home-cooked meal (not made myself), which I was pumped about. I’d heard all about this one particular dish from E, so I had high hopes. Recipes hopefully to be shared soon…
In the mix..

  • Homemade peanut noodles (organic pasta and natural pb = yay!)
  • General Tso’s “chicken”…ok semi-homemade. It was from Whole Foods. And it was fan-fricking-tastic!
  • Stir-fried broccoli that tasted like crack..not that I know what crack really tastes like.
    • E and I both adore broccoli, and believe me, this didn’t disappoint. Totally enamored.

Yesterday

That’s one secret you’ll have to wait to read about Winking smile

Dessert

I think I just need to marry dessert. Anyone want to conduct the ceremony? I  require only a license of love.

Yesterday

As E put it, we “pre-gamed” dinner last night. Because you have to pounce on crème brulee cupcakes when you get the chance, right? Because all the cool kids eat dessert BEFORE dinner, right? Because all the super freakin’ awesome kids eat dessert BEFORE an all-you-can-eat dim sum dinner where dessert is already included, right?

Right.

Today

First real water ice experience! Have you ever heard of water ice? It’s some jazzy stuff, let me tell you.

E, semi-retired professional water ice server that she is, made me a “gelatini”—cookies ‘n cream/chocolate pb water ice mixed with nonfat vanilla custard.

Oh. my.

I rest my case.
