When I wrote my “About Me” page, I don’t think I realized how much I had to say about food. I had intended the section to be more of a personal background or brief biography so as to give you a better idea of who I was as a person. But it ended up evolving into something more.
I didn’t realize how much my life has been, is, and will be affected by food. Sure, it isn’t the only determining factor in my life, but it has played a definite role in chiseling the very person I am today. After pouring every trickle of honesty and passion into my “About Me” page, I didn’t feel up to writing another lengthy post. To hit the “publish” button on that page—to share details of my life with which even friends and family are unfamiliar—was a huge step for me, and though positive, it was emotionally draining.
I wanted to take a breather from the “heavy stuff” and focus on a light topic: food.
When I call food a “light topic,” I mean it literally. Yes, there is controversy in the finer points of diet, nutrition, etc, but generally, food tends to be a light-hearted subject. It holds memories, encourages laughter, and helps us share good times with those we love most. Beyond this literal level though, food metaphorically provides light in my life. (And if I had to guess, probably yours as well!)
Food is my sunshine. Like sunshine, it can be shared and enjoyed with others. It makes me smile without reason. So simply put, it makes me happy.
Now that some time has passed since writing my About Me page, I have been able to think about where I stand regarding food. Without knowing it, writing said page lit a sort of philosophical fire within me. I realized that I have a lot that I want to say about food.
It is something that is deeply personal to me, and sharing my philosophy with the world feels like the best way to help clarify why I eat the way I do. For my family, for my friends, and for you.
I love it!! Again, you are an amazing writer. <3 What do you hope to do in the future "work wise." I completely and utterly agree that food is what defines me most in life. It is who I am, what I think about, and what I know. It will no longer be a negative part of my life but something I have grown to have a better relationship with. <3
